Background

In an April 2026 paper to ICAO, the airline associations IATA and ALTA said GNSS signal loss in Latin America and the Caribbean had risen significantly since September 2025, mainly in the airspace of Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela and the Caribbean, and linked it in their assessment to military operations and anti-drone countermeasures (IATA and ALTA, April 2026). In December 2025 the state airline Satena suspended its flights to Venezuela, citing official notices about disruption to air navigation in the Caribbean (Portafolio, December 2025). Colombia's transport minister, María Fernanda Rojas, spoke of signals "intended to deceive positioning equipment" and called it sabotage, in remarks Blu Radio reported as directed at the United States (Blu Radio, December 2025).

In January 2026 a US FAA notice warned of possible GNSS effects over Pacific waters in the Bogotá flight information region. Colombia's civil aviation authority, Aerocivil, said it had seen no visible effects on air navigation and did not expect to suspend or restrict flights (Portafolio, January 2026). An ICAO regional safety alert that month lists Bogotá among the regions covered by those FAA notices (ICAO RASG-PA, January 2026). We found no Colombian authority statement naming a specific transmitter. For the reporting on interference in Colombia, and who it is attributed to, see: Americas.

Only hexagons whose centre lies inside Colombia's borders are counted, so hexagons in neighbouring countries and out at sea are left out. The map is framed on -4.3 to 12.5 and -79.1 to -66.8.
