GPS jamming in Myanmar today

Myanmar today: 72.3% of monitored areas are affected.

Background

Myanmar's airspace appears often in other countries' reports. Malaysia's aviation regulator ranked the Yangon flight information region third worldwide among the places named in interference reports on its system from 2023 to early 2025, with 164 reports, behind Ankara and Sofia (CAAM, ICAO symposium, 2025). IATA described a flight from Europe to Bangkok that got terrain warnings in cruise after GPS jamming over Myanmar (IATA, ICAO symposium, 2025), and Thailand says most encounters in its own airspace involve flights to and from the Yangon region (Thailand AIC 05/25, 2025).

The Tribune, citing unnamed sources, reported that an Indian Air Force C-17 on an earthquake relief flight found its GPS signal spoofed for a few minutes on entering Myanmar's airspace on 29 March 2025 (The Tribune, April 2025). It said a role for China-backed rebel groups was suspected, without giving evidence or a named source (The Tribune, April 2025). We found no statement on the cause from Myanmar's own aviation authorities. For the reporting on interference in Myanmar, and who it is attributed to, see: South and Southeast Asia.

Only hexagons whose centre lies inside Myanmar's borders are counted, so hexagons in neighbouring countries and out at sea are left out. The map is framed on 9.8 to 28.6 and 92.2 to 101.2.

Cities and airports

Too few aircraft flew within 100 km of Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw for a figure today.

Myanmar: with few aircraft, one report can give a hexagon a high share; see the limitations.

By altitude

Myanmar: No clear altitude pattern. How this is read.

Myanmar: an aircraft is counted in each layer it crosses, so the rows do not add up.
