GPS jamming in Malaysia today

Malaysia today: 75.6% of monitored areas are affected.

Background

Malaysia's Civil Aviation Authority received 91 GNSS interference reports in 2023, 927 in 2024 and 233 in the first quarter of 2025 through a reporting system launched in April 2023 (CAAM, ICAO symposium, 2025). It puts the rise down to better reporting and says in-flight cases are probably under-reported (CAAM, ICAO symposium, 2025). Almost all were en route, and none of the ten most affected places it lists is in Malaysia: the top three are Ankara, Sofia and Yangon (CAAM, ICAO symposium, 2025).

The authority describes a national monitoring system with stations at Penang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport, built to detect interference in real time (CAAM, ICAO symposium, 2025). A 2026 paper says Malaysia has been active in sharing interference data in the region (Bangladesh, ICAO paper, 2026). We found no published report naming a source of interference inside Malaysia. For the reporting on interference in Malaysia, and who it is attributed to, see: South and Southeast Asia.

Only hexagons whose centre lies inside Malaysia's borders are counted, so hexagons in neighbouring countries and out at sea are left out. The map is framed on 0.8 to 7.4 and 99.6 to 119.3.

Malaysia: with few aircraft, one report can give a hexagon a high share; see the limitations.

By altitude

Malaysia: All altitudes: points to a powerful, wide-area source. How this is read.

Malaysia: an aircraft is counted in each layer it crosses, so the rows do not add up.
